Ensure SEMI standards-compliant connectivity

SEMI continues to evolve their standards to support advancing semiconductor manufacturing and we continue to maintain SEMI compliance in EIB for customers to readily adopt new and modified standards including SECS/GEM 200, GEM 300, PV2 (for Photovoltaics), and A3 PCBECI (for circuit board manufacturing). We are highly involved in developing and contributing to the SEMI standards and quickly make approved SEMI updates available in EIB. Each EIB release includes updates for new SEMI Standard versions, including new capabilities (e.g., Carrier Ready-to-Unload Prediction).

Connect any equipment – including IIOT devices – to factory systems

EIB is designed to support multiple equipment communication interfaces for almost any front-end or back-end equipment type. You can add EIB on equipment either out-of-process or in-process with your ECS, and connect to equipment, devices and factory host system. EIB provides a broad range of connection and communication interfaces including OPC UA, OPC DA, .NET Remoting, WCF, ASCII, COM and MQTT.

EIB’s flexile integration capabilities provide OEMs with many options for integrating into factories. For example, OEMs requiring IIOT connectivity can add IIOT equipment sensors to the factory using EIB’s MQTT interface.

PCB equipment manufacturers can leverage EIB to provide SEMI A3 PCBECI compliant interfaces for their tools. PLC-based equipment can add EIB for SEMI compliance by integrating through OPC UA or OPC DA. EIB’s variety of deployment options also includes the ability for OEMs to develop custom direct drivers for proprietary communication protocols.

EIB Underlying Technology

To connect your equipment to the factory, EIB provides a SEMI-compliant SECS/GEM connection (200mm or 300mm, serial or TCP/IP), and multiple other options including .NET, WCF, EDA, MQTT, data management and a custom communication interface to write an alternative or customized factory host interfaces.

Our factory products use the same underlying EIB connectivity software technology which is used in leading semiconductor factories around the world. EIB’s high-quality and SEMI standards compliance will reduce your equipment integration time into any factory, and will also provide for a seamless connection between your equipment and factory hosts already using EIB connectivity.

Collect high-volume data, including EDA (Interface A) data

The collection of (and access to) large volumes of data has become critical for high-quality manufacturing, equipment performance management, and factory processing optimizations. EIB is factory-proven to collect large volumes of data during advanced and extensive equipment processing.

EIB can be configured to collect and consolidate data from many sources during equipment operation, such as PLCs, equipment control software (ECS), sensors and communication data from factory hosts and data clients.

For your advanced data collection needs EIB also offers an advanced high-volume data management component. With simple configuration, OEMs can enable EIB’s EDA compliant interface to provide EDA data to the factory.

Users can also configure data collection options to collect historical data over defined periods of time, which can include a consolidation of equipment and processing data.

Improve the value of your equipment by integrating EIB to provide fast and accurate EDA, real-time or historical data for advanced manufacturing application capabilities such as e-Diagnostics, SPC, APC, Fault Detection, and Run-to-Run (R2R) Control, as well as analytics and responsive actions directly on the equipment.

Accelerate equipment development and deployment

EIB includes multiple offerings to help expedite the development of your factory connectivity solution. We’ve included various integration and equipment configuration file samples that demonstrate different deployment options. EIB tutorials instruct developers on how to use the included samples and quickly run a functional solution.

When planning to integrate your equipment into a semiconductor factory, OEMs can use EIB to quickly auto-generate a SEMI-compliant E172 SECS Equipment Data Dictionary document which describes the key integration data expected by the factory. This SEDD document can be shared with your factory customers for integration planning, and then quickly regenerated with the click of a button to communicate later changes and updates.

To help with troubleshooting during integration and maintenance, users can leverage EIB’s built-in logging infrastructure, including SEMI-compliant E173 SMN log data that captures host communications and equipment behaviors for analysis. EIB’s log viewer application will help you quickly isolate information to resolve issues with your deployment.

Store 10x more data, 450x faster than with a SQL database, and use only 1/10th of the database size

In the Smart Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 era, all semiconductor manufacturers and OEMs collect more data than ever from equipment, sensors and IIOT devices. More data collection means more required storage so your big data is available for analysis.

EIB offers leading-edge advancements in data management; it leverages time-series data collection used for data that is collected sequentially, e.g., from processing equipment and sensors at time intervals. While the need to store time-series data is not new, the growing amount of big data generated in semiconductor manufacturing has created demands that cannot be supported by typical database solutions. Fast and scalable data management (collection, storage and retrieval) is the foundation for solid Smart Manufacturing solutions and time-series databases are optimized to handle the challenges of managing massive amounts of data.

EIB’s time-series data management solution outperforms our fastest SQL solution and can scale to collect and store 10,000 data points 10 times per second (10Hz). That’s 100,000 data points per second! And, it uses only 1/10 of the storage capacity required by SQL.

EIB EDA

Equipment Data Acquisition (EDA, Interface A)

With EIB EDA, you can add EDA capabilities to existing EIB GEM or EIB 300 solutions to generate SEMI EDA-compliant data for high-speed data collection in the factory. The EDA data is published on a separate communications channel which allows you to deliver real-time, high volume data without affecting equipment communications with the factory via the SECS/GEM channel.

EDA is an alternate data collection channel which provides factories with data for advanced manufacturing application capabilities such as e-Diagnostics, SPC, APC, Fault Detection, and Run-to-Run (R2R) Control.

EIB EDA is compliant with SEMI EDA version 0710 (Freeze 2) and SEMI EDA version 1105 (Freeze 1). You can use EIB to enable one or both EDA freeze versions on your equipment and control data availability published to EDA clients via configuration.
