Adopting Cybersecurity Standards for Semiconductor Factories

We presented this topic at apc|m Europe and APCSM in 2023.

The size, value, and global importance of the semiconductor industry makes it a high value target for cyber criminals. Over the last five years alone – and as recently as February 2023 – multiple fabs and suppliers have been targeted and extorted by ransomware attacks.

Future attacks are inevitable. Protecting factories benefits the entire industry. To help fabs secure their operations, our industry must collaborate, develop, and adopt standards which provide a minimum layer of protection against cyberattacks.

In this presentation, Doug presented progress made by SEMI in publishing cybersecurity standards (SEMI E187 & E188). He reviewed these standards and how they will impact equipment makers and fabs and will explain how these standards increase cybersecurity, and how they don’t. The presentation ends with a discussion of next steps for standards organizations and the industry.
